Lindenmayer system is a fractal like grammar system used to describe natural emergence and growth patterns such as branching and growth in botanics. The geometric patterns are generated by simple set of rules using a predefined alphabet. The rules act as the “premise” since they are the initiator of a recursive fractal like growth system. The system generates the pattern to a predefined level of steps, in each step making addition to the geometry based on the same set of rules in an exponential fashion.

Although it is not a complete and definitive system that can illustrate every natural growth pattern in nature, It is still very compelling in the sense of how such a simple grammar set can describe and replicate the complexity of the natural phenomenon of growth to some degree and how such an underlying mechanism might exist in the fabric of the universe, operated by similar extremely simple set of rules.

“Object Iterate” started as an experiment to understand the principles of the system and explore the possible outcomes through the process. Despite the system is generally used and intended for generating natural growth patterns, “Object Iterate” intents to produce geometric objects that are abstract in form, emerging from some very simple variables.
